INT1000 was an internship PD and Reflection course that was required for all residential advisors to take. It was a course that was really beneficial to me personally and professionally. The class consisted of topics such as mental health in the workplace, conflict management, cross-cutting skills, and goal setting. Through these modules, I truly learned the skills necessary to be able to deal with conflict in the workplace and how to manage it. Conflict is something that everyone experiences, so it is important to know how to mediate from it. My favorite module was learning about mental health because it is crucial to have support for mental health in the workplace. Especially during Covid-19, this topic impacted me positively and aided me in becoming mentally strong and balanced while being an RA and doing class work. INT1000 also helped guide me in becoming a better RA by strategizing my goals for not only in the role of being an RA but as well as my future career goals as well. By using the acronym SMART, I was able to set goals for myself and to achieve them within a time frame. I was extremely grateful for having the opportunity to take this class because it truly helped me stay organized and improve upon skills that can be beneficial in the workplace.
I chose to display this image to the left because it is the first assignment that I was required to complete for INT1000. I specifically chose this because it represents the beginning of my residential advisor job. I wrote down goals for the role, expectations, and what the role means to me. It is great to see that these were my goals and ambitions at the beginning of fall semester and now it being spring, I am proud to say that I have met most of my expectations. It is great to see how far I have came as an individual and how much I got out of this class and the RA role. This discussion post is of great value to me because it marks the beginning of a great journey and represents my success.
